It's a good idea to keep the water in your house safe and clean... for obvious reasons!
Here are our top tips on how to do this:
- Locate your internal stop tap and check it works. It's a good idea to know where your stop tap is in case of emergencies, and know how to turn it off and on. If you're not sure where it is, try looking under the kitchen sink, or in the downstairs bathroom if you have one. Failing that it could be in your cellar if you have one.
- Regularly clean your household taps. Be sure to clean the inside of the spout too. Make sure you follow the manufacturer's cleaning instructions. After cleaning the tap make sure you run water through it for a few moments to remove any cleaning product.
- Don't leave things like flannels or dishclothes to dry on the tap, this will prevent any contamination.
- If you've been away make sure you run your taps for a few minutes before using the water. This will get rid of the water that has been in your taps for that time.
